Overview
Located right where the 15.2 mile long Waiska River meets Lake Superior’s Whitefish Bay, Brimley is an unincorporated community within Superior township in Chippewa County, Michigan. Brimley is a charming town that offers a scenic drive along Lake Superior’s southern shore. Its quaint beauty is amplified by the warmth and friendliness of its people. Bay Mills Indian Community (locally known in Ojibwe as Gnoozhekaaning or “Place of the Piles”) owns a patch of land near Brimley. The two communities form a tax-agreement area.
Originally called Superior after it was founded in 1887, this unincorporated town was renamed after a local postal official in 1896. This was done to avoid confusion with Minnesota’s Superior station, which was on the same railroad line as Brimley.

Guests are also treated to a view of the Canadian Hills on Brimley State Park’s sandy beach. Point Iroquois Lighthouse, which stands tall at a height of 65 feet, towers at the entrance of the Soo Locks and St. Mary’s River.
Once you’ve had your share of outdoor activities, head over to Bay Mills Resort & Casino, located on St. Mary River’s shores. This Native American casino features ample casino space, slot machines, and table games for its guests. For history fans, the Wheels of History Museum and the Bay Mills-Brimley Historical Society are definite must-sees.
